Voce, ritmo e movimento.

Vale. How did you start?

Moss. I began teaching after performing and learning for years. I started to dance when I was three in Australia. I performed since I was 7 or 8 in west end theatre shows and pantomime in Bristol, England. It wasn’t until I began to rebel at University, even though I was studying dance! When I discovered a world of the DIY (Do it yourself) approach and began experimenting across forms of music, dance and theatre with a great friend Alessandra Camozzi – who happens to be Italian! We travelled in Europe together looking for alternative musical theatre and learning. When I moved to Berlin 4 years ago, I began to co-work with Contact Impro & Tango Maestro Javier Cura. He has been very encouraging and has supported my work with voice and movement.

V. Which women have inspired you?

M. Many women inspire me. I am looking a lot to Meredith Monk – a long time voice and dance expert. I have not met her yet I must find a way! I have also been infatuated by the movement of canadian choreographer Crystal Pite lately. So well formed and yet organic and real. There are a couple of Czechs that come to mind; Iva Bittova and a friend Miřenka Čechová. Inspiring women. There are lots of men too; Bobby Mcferrin for example and Demetrio Stratos (another italian! Mamma Mia!)

V. I saw on your site that you’ve got to work in many countries around the world. Would you like to tell us some memories of your experiences around the world?

M. I was born in Sydney. I travelled in the womb I guess. First senses of Natures magnificence in North Auckland – New Zealand. I got anglicised after moving to England and didn’t travel for long periods, while I was growing up except in camper vans and for holidays. At one point I decided that I had had enough of England. I toured to China when I was 20. This had lasting impressions on me; karaoke around spinning tables of mysterious and still-living food, performing in some seedy venues, being a minority identity, and sensing something like the future; socialist capitalism?. The biggest lesson was to value ones autonomy. Berlin is still the place to discover that. It has been said it has “no ambition” this gives a lot of space to breath. I created a 13 person voice orchestra in one day in Berlin. I have many good memories; a 30 person performance in the Bechyne village Monastery with Javier Cura. Running around the village in costumes inviting public to come! We give a special 2 week summer international residency programme for everyone interested. See updates on facebook. Last year I was touring the Balkans with FATD. My favourite memory was street performing at night in Shutka; Macedonia- the biggest Roma community in the world (maybe)!
